Chinese experience no. 11
Pingtan China International Sculpture Exhibition
October 2014
Pingtan Island, also called Haitan Island, is located on the Eastern coast of Southern China in the province of Fujian.ֲ
Pingtan is the largest island in Fujian and the fifth largest island in China.
In the summer of 2013 I was invited to submit several proposals to the Pingtan Sculpture International Exhibition.ֲ This was the first time I had heard of the name, Pingtan.ֲ Even though it was my eleventh trip to China, I had no idea where Pingtan was located.ֲ The organizing committee received l,242 proposals from 61 countries.ֲ
They selected 48 works and my work, "Birds Harmony" was amongst those chosen.
The opening ceremony took place in October, 2014

Birds Harmony, Iron, 550 X 450 X 370 cm
As always, Chinese hospitality was at its height from every point of view.
The Sculpture Park is located on the lakeside combining extremely diverse sculptures with ecological gardens, plus a most fabulous landscape.

Dina speaking at the conference
I met old friends and new colleagues and the whole experience was exciting, interesting and enriching.
After a few days of exploring the amazing landscape of Pingtan Island, we returned to the main coast, to the city of Xiamen.
We saw a very pleasant performance.
As always the hotel we were situated in a five star luxurious tower overlooking the city of Xiamen.
The intensive week I spent in Pingtan and Xiamen was fulfilling from every point of view.ֲ
Seeing beautiful landscapes, meeting old and new friends from all over the world and, most important, seeing the installation of my new sculpture, "Birds Harmony" made the entire trip a dream come true.ֲ
The small model now stands in full dimension, facing the picturesque landscape of Pingtan Island.ֲ
It is indeed the final realization of what at the beginning was only an idea; now an image that has become a monumental reality.
