סורין ( סימון ) כהנא

Sorin (Semion) Cahana

Sorin was born in Bucharest in 1945. At the age of 17 he immigrated to Israel with his parents. His mother was a cousin to the late sculptor Tuvia Iuster, one of the village's first inhabitants

In Rumania Sorin had lived in a home, thus his parents asked Tuvia to look for a suitable institution for him in Israel. After visiting several such homes in Israel, and saying "I would not put my dog in this place", Tuvia brought Sorin to live with him, in the single room he was living in in those days, with no electricity or running water

Certainly a rather unique decision for a young artists in his 30's

Sorin was a frightened, weak boy and Tuvia helped him. He taught him how to fit in normal life, arranging for him to work with the village's caretaker

With time Sorin started his activity at the "Akim" organization in Haifa, or "school" as he calls it. There he learned to work with wood, ceramics and painting. Sorin has presented his works in several exgibitions

Sorin is quite an artist, with good memory for names and dates, and an intuitive sensitivity for his surrounding. He is curious, gets by on his own, and is surrounded by friends. He never forgets a birthday and loves to give flowers to ladies in the village. According to him - "the whole world" is friends with him

Only in a place like Ein Hod, and with the wonderful help of Tuvia Yuster, could Sorin have found a warm, supporting home, which enables him to live his life in full, as an equal person and member of the community

נולד בבוקרסט רומניה בשנת 1945. בגיל 17 עלה לישראל עם הוריו, אימו היתה בת דודתו של הפסל טוביה יוסטר ז"ל מראשוני כפר האמנים עין-הוד.

ברומניה חי סורין במוסד טיפולי, לכן בקשו הוריו את טוביה לחפש עבורו מוסד מתאים שיקלוט אותו בארץ.

אחרי שטוביה סייר בכמה מוסדות בארץ אמר:  "את הכלב שלי לא הייתי מכניס לאף מקום כזה"

והחליט להשאיר את סורין אצלו למרות שבאותם הימים היה חי בחדר אחד ללא חשמל ומים , החלטה יוצאת דופן עבור בחור צעיר בשנת ה-30 לחיו.

סורין היה נער מפוחד וחלש וטוביה עזר לו, הדריך  ולימד  אותו להשתלב בחיים ואף דאג וסידר לו מקום עבודה כחצרן בכפר עיו-הוד.

עם הזמן החל סורין להשתלב בפעילות במועדון "אקים" בחיפה  "בית הספר" כלשונו ,משום ששם למד לעבוד בעץ, קרמיקה ובציור. במשך השנים יצר סורין עבודות שהוצגו במספר תערוכות.

סורין ארטיסט לא קטן בעל זיכרון טוב לשמות ותאריכים עם יכולת אינטואיטיבית ורגישות לסביבה. סקרן  מסתדר בכוחות עצמו ומוקף בחברים  רבים. לא שוכח ימי הולדת ומעניק פרחים לנשות הכפר. לדבריו של סורין כל העולם חברים שלו.

רק במקום כמו כפר האמנים עין-הוד ובעזרתו של הפסל טוביה יוסטר יכול היה סורין למצוא בית חם ותומך  שאיפשר לו לחיות חיים שלמים ושווים  כאחד האדם בחברה.
