Art and Governmental Corruption
Since the dawn of time the lust for rule
and for honor has existed in man. This desire for power is not necessarily
negative, but to our chagrin it has become so in the past few years.
Power leads to corruption!
The artist lives in reality and experiences
the difficult processes that take place within the society. Indeed, those
artists who in their works convey criticism of the corruption that has
spread throughout the government and the society have always been considered
to be subtle barometers of their culture. Theirs is not negative criticism,
but a critique, whose purpose it is to restore to the society a
consciousness of the necessity of guarding the rights of the people, their
honor and their freedom.
In this exhibition sculptural, painting and
theatrical works are presented. A number of the works deal bluntly and
directly with the power of government. Uri Lifshitz paints our leaders,
judges and rabbis with ridiculous and frightening utterances issuing from
their lips. Yisrael Rabinovitz presents the sculpture “An Axe to Dig
With”, and ARMA Theater presents a documentation of their performance
“Government of Fools”. In his painting David Leviathan offers us an
alternative leadership in the image of two old and wise women, while Dror
Karta deals with a daily chronicle of corruption.
Other works relate directly to the bill of
money as a symbol of the power of wealth (Hanan Shlonsky and Valentina
Brusilovskaya). Other artists view government corruption as a direct and
personal threat on their very homes. In the work by Dror Goldberg, entitled
“I.L.A.”, the threat comes from the Israel Lands Authority, and here he
presents a scathing criticism of its operation. Batia Eisenwasser-Jancourt
presents the remains of a house as a mere outline within an illusory space
of green artificial grass.
The misuse of ruling power leads to the
cynical exploitation of natural resources and irreversible damage to them.
In Ilana Goor’s work “Cormorant” we can observe a bird that has been torn
from its natural environment and can no longer fly. Dina Merhav’s bird will
also never fly again. It has become “A Political Animal.”
These artists, like others throughout the
country, are fed up with the present situation. Mara Ben Dov expresses this
in her work “”We’ve Had It with You.” The dream of establishing a properly
functioning and moral country has been smashed against reality. Dan Chamizer
uses torn scraps of the Scroll of Independence in his work “Bench of the
Accused”, and Yoav Ben Dov relates to the flag of Israel and changes its
character.
We are all familiar with the image of the
three monkeys who see, hear and speak no evil. The image refers here to a
corrupt, morally bankrupt society. The monkey as a creature that lusts only
for power and to satisfy its basic hungers appears in the work of Hadas
Alperovitz.

“Read Their Lips” relates to the misuse of language by figures of government
and wealth.
In closing we must mention the sculptures
of Dan Ben Arye “A Good Name Arranges All”, and of Zeeva Konas’s “Sticking
his Head in the Sand.” In the titles of these works there is a direct
reference to the reign of “protectionism” within the institutions of the
state and of the willful disregard and connivance on the part of our leaders
to the present situation.

אמנות ושחיתות בשלטון
משחר ההיסטוריה
קיימת באדם התשוקה לשלטון וכבוד. תשוקה זו לכוח איננה בהכרח שלילית, אך לצערנו,
בשנים האחרונות, הפכה לכזו.
הכוח נוטה
להשחית!
האמן שחי
במציאות וחווה את התהליכים הקשים בחברה. האמנים, שנחשבו מאז ומתמיד לברומטר
רגיש של התרבות, מעבירים ביצירותיהם ביקורת על השחיתות שפשטה בשלטון ובחברה. זו
איננה ביקורת שלילית, אלא ביקורת שמטרתה להחזיר לנו כחברה את ההכרה בצורך לשמור
על זכויות האדם, כבודו וחירותו.
בתערוכה זו
מוצגות עבודות פיסול, ציור ותיאטרון.מספר עבודות עוסקות בכוח השלטון בצורה
ישירה ובוטה.אורי ליפשיץ מצייר את מנהיגינו,שופטינו ורבנינו כשטקסטים מגוחכים
ומפוחדים יוצאים מפיהם.ישראל רבינוביץ מציג
את הפסל "קרדום לחפור בו" ותיאטרון ארמא תיעוד של הצגת" ממשלת השוטים".דויד
לוייתן מציע לנו בציורו מנהיגות אלטרנטיבית בדמות שתי נשים זקנות וחכמות ודרור
קרטה עוסק ביומן יומי של שחיתות.,
עבודות אחרות
מתייחסות ישירות לשטר הכסף כמסמל את כח ההון (חנן שלונסקי, ולנטינה
ברוסילובסקיה ). אמנים אחרים רואים בשחיתות השלטונית איום ישיר ואישי על ביתם
הם. בעבודתו של דרור גולדברג שכותרתה הינה ''מ.מ.י'', בא האיום מצד מנהל
מקרקעי ישראל, שעל תפקודו מביע האמן ביקורת נוקבת. בתיה אייזנוואסר – ינקורט
מציגה את שרידיו של הבית כקו מתאר בתוך מרחב אשלייתי של דשא מלאכותי ירוק.
השימוש לרעה
בכוח השלטון מוביל לניצול ציני של משאבי טבע ולפגיעה בלתי הפיכה בהם. בעבודתה
של אילנה גור ''קורמרן'', ניתן לצפות בציפור שנושלה מסביבתה הטבעית ולא תוכל
שוב לעוף. גם הציפור של דינה מרחב לא תעוף לעולם. היא הפכה ל''חיה פוליטית''.
האמנים, כמו גם
אחרים במדינה, מאסו במצב הקיים. מרה בן דב מבטאת זאת בעבודתה ''נמאסתם''. החלום
הקמתה של מדינה מתוקנת ומוסרית התנפץ אל מול המציאות. דן חמיצר משתמש בעבודתו
''ספסל הנאשמים'' בקרעי מגילת העצמאות ויואב בן דב מתייחס לדגל ישראל ומשנה את
אופיו.
לכולנו מוכר
הדימוי של שלושת הקופים שאינם שומעים, רואים ומדברים. דימוי המיוחס לחברה בלתי
מוסרית ומושחתת מידות. הקוף כיצור תאב שלטון ויצר מופיע בעבודתה של הדס
אלפרוביץ.
סדרת המסכות של
שלומי שוורצברג ''קראו את שפתיהם'', מתייחסת לשימוש לרעה בשפה ע''י אנשי השלטון
וההון.
לסיכום נזכיר
גם את פסליהם של דן בן אריה ''שם טוב מסדר הכול'' ושל זאבה קונס ''טומן ראשו
בחול''. בשמותיהן קיימת התייחסות ישירה לשלטון הפרוטקציה במוסדות המדינה והעלמת
העין של ראשי השלטון תוך הסכמה שבשתיקה למצב הקיים.
